Acting Methods/Performance
Theatre Production 1 - 4 Credit: 1 Grade Placement: 9-12 Requirement: Activity fee- $60.00 (Scholarships available for those that qualify) Students in these courses will dive into the art of acting. Students will learn various acting methods, voice and movement, diction and projection techniques and are required to perform on stage or camera. Students will have the opportunity to audition for UIL One Act Play and Film performances. As students advance through this course they will be given opportunities to participate in other aspects of theatre production including directing, dramaturgy, and artistic direction. Unified Theatre 1 - 4 Credit: 1 Grade Placement 9-12 Students in this course will be required to participate in an extra-curricular “Project Unify” production. This course focuses on all aspects of theatrical production while collaborating together as students with and without disabilities. This includes acting concepts and skills, production concepts and skills, and aesthetic growth through appreciation of theatrical events. Students will share in the theatre experience by working in the various areas associated with overall production. Involvement in co-curricular production activities outside of the classroom is an integral and essential requirement of theatre production. Students must complete the prerequisite required and receive permission from the instructor to be placed in this course at the end of the previous school year. |
Technical Theatre
Technical Theatre 1 Credit: 1 Grade Placement: 9-12 Requirement: Activity fee - $60.00 (Scholarships available for those that qualify) Technical Theatre 1 students will identify and apply the principles of scene design, lighting design, and costume design. Students will receive basic training in technical and design software including SketchUp, QLab, and ETC Ion. In addition, students will identify and assume the responsibilities of the traditional technical crews and support staff. All students will be required to be a part of the technical crew for at least one show during the school year and help construct all sets produced at the high school. Students must have teacher’s approval. Technical Theatre 2 - 4 Credit: 1 Grade Placement: 10-12 Prerequisite: Successful completion of Technical Theatre I and permission of the instructor by audition/interview. Requirement: Activity fee - $60.00 (Scholarships available for those that qualify) Students in this course focus on will identify and apply the principles of scene design, lighting design, and costume design. Students will receive advanced training in technical and design tools including SketchUp, QLab, and Ion. In addition, students will identify and assume the responsibilities of the traditional technical crews and support staff. All students will be required to be part of the technical crew for at least three shows during the school year and help construct all sets produced at the high school. Students will participate in UIL Theatrical Design program. Students must have teacher’s approval. |
Directing for Stage and Screen
Directing I Credit: 1 Grade Placement: 9-12 Requirement: Activity fee - $60.00 (Scholarships available for those that qualify) Prerequisite: Theatre Production 1 or Technical Theatre 1 Students focus on production elements including directing skills, script analysis, playwriting, and stage management, as well as, implementing acting techniques using the students enrolled in Theatre Productions as the acting ensemble. This course integrates theatre skills for career-oriented students featuring extensive amounts of work in play/script analysis, and auditioning methods. Students in this course will direct short films, scenes, and/or one act plays throughout the year. Directing II Credit: 1 Grade Placement: 9-12 Requirement: Activity fee - $60.00 (Scholarships available for those that qualify) Prerequisite: Directing I Students focus on production elements specifically advanced directing skills using the students enrolled in Theatre Productions as the acting ensemble. This course integrates theatre skills for the career-oriented student featuring extensive amounts of work in play/script analysis and the evolution of theatrical art, as well as, the student of advanced acting techniques, character analysis, and auditioning methods. Students in this course will direct a full-length class play, short films and/or scenes throughout the year. |
